Northern Community Mediation offered an Advanced Mediation Training from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Bay View Inn in Bay View, MI, which abuts Petoskey, MI. “Potpourri–A Review of the Basics” was divided into eight segments:
- Opening Statements
- Agreement Writing
- Safety & Security
- Body Language
- “Sticky Wickets”
- Tone of Voice
Of the 32 participants, 24 are mediators for NCM, four are mediators for the Citizen Dispute Resolution Program center in Traverse City, and four are private mediators, three of them being from Traverse City and one from Cadillac.
Next spring, rather than offering another advanced mediation training, NCM will probably offer the forty-hour, general civil training course. This training is required in order to be a mediator in the state of Michigan. Additionally, all mediators are required to take at least eight hours of advanced training every two years.
