Training for mediators and board members is offered at both the local and statewide levels.


Advanced Mediation Training
Friday, June 1, 2018

Northern Community Mediation will offer an Advanced Mediator training from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Bay View Inn in Bay View, MI, which abuts Petoskey, MI. “Potpourri–A Review of the Basics” will be divided into eight segments:

  • Opening Statements
  • Agreement Writing
  • Safety & Security
  • Body Language
  • “Sticky Wickets”
  • Tone¬† of Voice
  • Ethics
  • Programs

Service Enterprise Initiative Training
Wednedays: April 4, April 25, May 2, and May 16

Organizations that fundamentally leverage volunteers and their skills to deliver on its social mission are called Service Enterprises. This four-day workshop focuses on four areas relating to the use of volunteers: Laying the Foundation, Building Support, Creating Sustainability and Moving to Success. Service Enterprise Initiative Training

Forty-Hour, General Civil Mediation Training
Tuesday, April 13 – Thursday, April 15 & Tuesday, April 20 – Thursday, April 22

This training is being offered by The Dispute Resolution Center in Lansing, Michigan.

This forty-hour training is required for all individuals who plan on mediating in the state of Michigan. This includes those who plan to mediate for one of the Citizen Dispute Resolution Centers, as well as attorneys who plan to incorporate mediation into their private practice.

Your Mental Health First Aid
Tuesday, April 17 or Wednesday, June 6

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan and the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District collaboratively offer this training. It is appropriate for parents, teachers, social workers, nurses, coaches, faith healers, court personnel and attorneys.

Mental Health Registration

Adult Guardianship Mediation Training
Thursday, April 26 – Friday, April 27, 2018

This training is being offered by the State Court Administrative Office at the Hall of Justice in Lansing, Michigan. The purpose of this specialized training is to prepare mediators when dealing with cases that involve adult guardianship.
