Fundraising
Approximately one-third of Northern Community Mediation's (NCM) funding comes from the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO), and one-third comes from Charlevoix and Emmet counties and their courts. The other 33% is raised by NCM.
In addition to fees and grants, Northern Community Mediation focuses upon three fundraising opportunities: the Theatre Party, the Donor Campaign, and donations.
Theatre Party
On Monday, March 11, 2013, Northern Community Mediation (NCM) will hold its 9th annual Theatre Party at the Petoskey Cinema in Petoskey, Michigan. From 5:30pm to 7:00pm, attendees will be able to enjoy appetizers that are sufficient to constitute dinner from several local restaurants plus non-alcoholic wine and beer. Additionally, through the generosity of local merchants, wonderful door prizes will be given away, and a 50/50 raffle will be held.
Then, at 7:00pm everyone will be able to choose one of eight movies to see that is showing at the theatre.
All of this is for the low price of $25.00 per person. Quite a deal!

Donor Campaign
Each year, Northern Community Mediation (NCM) initiates a donor campaign. It is done through a letter of solicitation that highllights the impact mediation has had in a particular case.
The 2012 letter focused on a Victim-Offender Reconciliation case in which two boys vandalized what to them looked like a "junk yard," but was in fact a source of income for an older couple.

Donations
Other than small claims cases, Northern Community Mediation (NCM) charges minimal fees, depending upon the type of case. For court referred, court ordered and divorce cases, the fee is split evenly between the parties. For all other cases, it is the initiator who is responsible for the fee.
For those individuals who are not charged a fee, it is suggested by the staff during intake that they may want to consider making a donaation to NCM.
Additionally, donations are accepted from anyone who wants to contribute to the non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organiztion. In 2012, NCM received $4,250.28 in general donations and $3,775.00 as a result of the donor campaign for a total of $8,025.28 in donations.
To make a donation, contact NCM at 231.487.1771 or by e-mail jane@northernmediation.org. All donations made to NCM are tax deductible.
